A giant 8ft bear and staff sculpture is making its way to Warwickshire in celebration of The Handmade Fair presented by Kirstie Allsopp, which arrives in the county later this spring.
An iconic county emblem that can be seen across Warwickshire on road signs, pub names, statues and buildings, the handmade life-size willow bear and staff will be on display outside Warwick Castle's aptly named, Bear Tower, throughout March and April.
Towering intimidatingly above those who dare to approach it, the bear and staff creation took willow weaving artist, Juliette Hamilton, one month to make and weighs in at an impressive 50kg. The piece was commissioned by the people behind The Handmade Fair presented by Kirstie Allsopp, an event which brings together Britain's best handmade products, crafts supplies, and artisan foods.
Having already enjoyed three successful years at Hampton Court Palace, The Handmade Fair presented by Kirstie Allsopp, is launching a second event at Ragley Hall, Park and Gardens from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th May, 2017.
The Fair programme will include live craft-offs from some of the UK's best-known makers and experts, and a series of hands-on workshops where visitors can learn new skills such as willow weaving, upholstery, needle-felting and calligraphy. TV presenter, Kirstie Allsopp, will top the bill on the Friday, before handing over the reins to Liz Earle, skincare specialist and founder of the multi-award winning Fairtrade jewellery range, Patrick Grant, British designer and judge on The Great British Sewing Bee, and Keith Brymer Jones, pottery designer and judge from BBC Two's The Great Pottery Throw Down. The event will also feature over 150 hand-picked exhibitors, each selling beautifully crafted products, materials, and tools, as well as delicious food and drink stalls.
Ali Atkinson, Marketing Manager at The Handmade Fair said: “We're very excited to be launching a second event in Warwickshire and what better way to mark the celebration than constructing a giant version of the county emblem and having it displayed at the iconic Warwick Castle. The Handmade Fair is all about showcasing the talent and creativity we've here in the UK and this willow-weaving sculpture is just a glimpse into the wonderful things the artists and makers in our country can create.”
