ICHF Events welcomed more than 38,000 visitors to its latest shows, Sewing for Pleasure, Fashion & Embroidery and Hobbycrafts which this year included Cake International show a couple of weekends ago at the NEC in Birmingham.
The four vibrant shows took place from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th March with more than 400 exhibitors selling craft supplies for knitting, papercraft, sewing and quilting along with an abundance of fabulous cakes and all things sugarcraft.
For superhero fans, Cake International was a real treat. Cake and sugar sculpting extraordinaire, Rose Macefield from Dudley, West Midlands, put her sculpting skills to the test to create a jaw-dropping themed cake feature for the show. Rose took on the mighty Batman and Superman to create a spectacular, full size cake sculpture of the two superheroes, who are currently on the silver screen. Alan Shipman, vice chair of judges at Cake International – The Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating & Baking show said: “The show is a lovely size and I think there has been an amazing standard in the competition classes. All the tables are full which is a wonderful sight and feedback from the public has been great.”
As well as fabulous cakes and delicious ideas, there were craft exhibitors aplenty, with Sewing for Pleasure, Fashion & Embroidery and Hobbycrafts having something for every budding crafter or beginner over the four days. The Fashion & Embroidery show was the place to discover the latest trends and inspiration in textile art and embroidery. With catwalk shows, a multitude of fabrics and threads, textile groups, societies and artists on hand to share their expertise; visitors were able to indulge their passion and brush up on techniques with free workshops and demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Wendy Turner Webster, show exhibitor and one half of the TV presenting duo Crafty Beggars said: “We've been phenomenally busy over Thursday and Friday. Trade has been roaring and everyone seems to be having a really fun time taking part in our workshops which is so satisfying for us. We love coming to these shows as it's great for our brand awareness as well as being a marvellous platform. It's hard work but a lot of fun and we always have a really excellent time!”
