Immediate Media intends to buy Jewellery Maker, the 24-hour TV shopping channel and this will be the first time that the publisher of Radio Times and BBC Good Food will move into television with this acquisition indicating a major shift in its marketing strategy.
Jewellery Maker, founded in 2010, and owned by The Genuine Gemstone Company employs more than 100 people and produces live streams, video tutorials and workshops. Immediate Media says it already reaches more than 18 million consumers each month through its magazine brands, with two million in the craft sector, and the purchase of the TV shopping business will signify growth of the business into on-line. Tom Bureau, the chief executive of Immediate Media commented, "Immediate is focused on unlocking value from highly engaged special interest audiences across a range of technology platforms and business models. We look for opportunities where there's deep engagement with audiences, where we can quickly integrate the technology and business model, and where there's real growth potential.
Jewellery Maker, and the platform and systems that are part of this deal, ticks all these boxes." The acquisition will take place at the beginning of December. Jewellery Maker broadcasts 24 hours a day on Sky Channel 665, Virgin Channel 756 and Freesat Channel 807.
