Stylecraft Supports Marathon Guinness World Record Attempt

You might think running the London Marathon would be challenge enough. But this April, Simon Fannon — better known as @veteranknitter — is proving that ordinary limits simply don’t apply to him. A Stylecraft Insider and former Royal Marine Commando, Simon is taking on 26.2 miles with an extra twist: he’ll be attempting a Guinness World Records title for knitting a scarf while running the marathon on 26th April 2026.

Marathon runner running while knitting Supported by Stylecraft and armed with balls of Special XL and a custom set of knitting needles courtesy of Tom Dyson Woodworking, Simon must knit an incredible 3.8 metres in six hours to make it count. He can't cast on until the starting gun fires — meaning every single stitch will be made on the move, fuelled by grit, determination, and no small amount of coordination.

"When I was gearing up for the marathon, I said to my wife I wonder if there's a world record I could break around knitting. She immediately looked it up, and there was. So here we are," Simon says.

What makes this even more remarkable? Simon has never run a marathon before.

For over 15 years, he and his wife have stood on the sidelines as volunteers, cheering others on. This year, he steps onto the start line himself — not just to test his own limits, but to raise vital funds for two organisations close to his heart.

Huntington's Disease Association supports families affected by Huntington's disease — a condition Simon's mum lives with — through research, education and compassionate care. And Reorg helps veterans, military and emergency services personnel rebuild strength and resilience through functional fitness and jiu-jitsu, supporting both physical and mental wellbeing.

This isn't just about breaking a record. It's about honouring family. Supporting community. Showing that creativity and courage can go hand in hand — even at mile 20.

Annabelle Hill, Sales and Marketing Director of Stylecraft, says: "On 26th April, every stitch will tell a story. Every mile will mean something more. And somewhere between the start line and the finish, Simon will prove that resilience isn't just about how far you can run — it's about what you carry with you along the way. Good luck, Simon."
