The Longest Yarn Launches Heartfelt Appeal to Support Veteran Charities

Posted by Rachel Westall on 4 December 2025

The Longest Yarn group shot As the project receives no grants or government funding, transport, materials and operational costs are covered by the Association, and surplus funds are donated to veteran charities, including the Royal British Legion and Forces Veterans Afloat, who are using a donation from The Longest Yarn (the largest they've ever received) for refurbishment of a canal boat supporting a homeless veteran. Lizzie Lane, Trustee of Forces Veterans Afloat, said "Donations from organisations such as The Longest Yarn mean so much to us and the veterans we help. Just £20 buys a bag of coal or a kettle, whilst larger donations of £1000 can buy a boat license for a year."
