The image that graces the front cover of our October/November issue entitled 'Cunning' is the latest counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads, inspired by artist Rachel Froud. Part of The Menagerie Collection, the range is based on brightly coloured animal closeups and also includes Sea turtles, elephants, lions and more. Worked on 14 count full colour printed Zweigart Aida with pre-sorted stranded cottons this design uses cross stitch and back stitch.
Craft Focus speaks exclusively to Rachel to find out more about her passion for art...
"I'm a self-taught artist from Hertfordshire. I spend most of my time in my studio painting with my little rescue dog Coco, she loves to sit and snuggle up next to me while I paint. Animals play a major role in my artwork and inspiration, I feel a really strong connection with them and I love to portray their individual personalities. I love to play with light, colour and movement to create a one of a kind piece and I really enjoy experimenting with different techniques. Being able to turn my imagination into a reality by putting paint onto canvas is the main reason I love art so much, and I love to create paintings that make people smile."
The Cunning fox design has certainly caused quite a stir with so many readers commenting on the design.
The finished cross stitch design from Bothy Threads measures 26cm by 26cm and has an RRP £28.49.
