The Big Sew Off 2023

Posted by Rachel Westall on 8 August 2023

Organised by Sew Over It, one of the UK’s biggest independent sewing companies, this is the second year of the Big Sew Off. Last year over £10k was raised for Mind and this year the aim is  to raise a lot more with your support. The event takes place on Monday 4th September where participants will be sewing for 24 hours. Sewing will start at 10am on 4th September and finish at 10am on Tuesday 5th September.

The Big Sew Off central hub will be hosted by the New Craft House shop in East London where Lisa and the Sew Over It team will be sewing for the full 24 hours, with other familiar sewing faces joining in throughout the day. Everything made at the central hub will be donated to a non-profit called Give Your Best, a Vinted-style website for refugees and asylum seekers to shop on for free.

The whole event will be live-streamed on the Sew Over It YouTube channel and there will be Instagram lives throughout the day (and night) from the room and to connect with other sewing businesses and personalities around the world.

Who else is involved?
The Big Sew Off is bringing together the UK sewing world: Elisalex from By Hand London will be sewing at the central hub, Tilly and the Buttons and Sew Me Sunshine teams will be sewing along from their studios, and Sewing Bee contestants past and present will be connecting from their sewing spaces.

Sewing hubs are being organised across the country, with two led by Sewing Bee alumni: a Scottish hub at the Sew Yarn Crafty shop in Dunfermline led by Jen Hogg, and a Birmingham hub at Lauren Guthrie's shop Guthrie and Ghani.

We are encouraging sewists all over the UK and beyond to join in by sewing along from their homes and helping fundraise for Mind.
