9 INDUSTRY NEWS Industry news Latest news from the craft industry Crayola outlines strategy to double its UK business over next three years Crayola, a leader in colourful creative expression, has announced that it’s increasing its commitment in the UK and Irish markets with the goal of doubling its business over the next three years and acting as a key growth engine for the European region. The more than 120-year-old brand seeks to re-connect with British and Irish consumers and retailers through a direct distribution strategy, alongside investment in infrastructure, product innovation, and creative content. Crayola’s plan will empower parents and educators in the UK and Ireland to nurture creativity in children, ensuring they get the benefit of developing essential life skills. Creativity has been demonstrated to support the development of core life skills, predict career success, enhance educational outcomes, and contribute to overall wellbeing and fulfilment. In fact, the UK government recently unveiled plans to reform the national curriculum, implementing changes that affirm creativity as an important part of UK education. The revitalised curriculum recognises the value the arts bring in broadening skills for a competitive job market, in line with Crayola’s belief in the benefits of creativity for children. Pete Ruggiero, CEO of Crayola, comments: “We believe that every child in the UK and Ireland should have the chance to create, explore, and imagine without limits. Our 2026 roadmap backs that belief with real investment – tools, resources, and programmes that enable creative moments and allow children to reach their potential.” For further info, visit the website: www.crayola.com PYRAMID INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES NEW LICENCE PARTNERSHIPS FOR 2026 Pyramid International is heading into 2026 with an exciting wave of new licence partnerships that will unlock fresh opportunities across gifting, stationery, accessories and beyond. 12 UK TOY MARKET RETURNS TO GROWTH FOR FIRST TIME IN FIVE YEARS The latest annual industry report by the BTHA and Circana confirms year-onyear growth of six percent with strong demand for toys throughout the year Building sets emerge as the fastest-growing category, rising 25 percent, closely followed by action figures (+16 percent), and games and puzzles (+15 percent). Licensed toys strengthen their market position, accounting for 38 percent of total toy sales following a year of blockbuster film releases in 2025. Results point to an evolving era of play, as families increasingly engage with toys through shared entertainment, nostalgia, and cross-generational appeal. Annual industry insights from the British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA) and global market research company, Circana, unveiled at Toy Fair in London, show the UK toy industry returned to growth in 2025 – its first growth year since the Covid-driven surge of toy sales in 2020. Figures reveal toy sales were up six percent year on year, contributing to a sector now worth £3.9 billion. This marks a significant turnaround for the UK toy sector after several challenging years. Toy sales increased every month of 2025 compared to 2024, showing steady recovery. Whilst the ‘kidult’ category continued its upward trajectory for those purchasing toys over the age of 12 (+10 percent), children’s toys for under twelves also delivered solid growth in 2025, with sales up four percent year on year, and representing 67 percent of overall market expenditure. Pentel reaches fundraising milestone Japanese writing instruments manufacturer Pentel (Stationery) Ltd., is celebrating raising more than £750,000 for men’s health charity Prostate Cancer UK. In 2009 Pentel became a corporate partner of what was then The Prostate Cancer Charity, donating part of the retail price of every sale of a ballpoint pen called Linestyle. The product that really made the difference and helped to reach today’s donation figure of over three quarters of a million pounds is EnerGel Xm Retractable, a white barrelled refillable rollerball pen with smooth flowing, ultra-quick-drying ink that resists smudging on hands and paper and is perfect for right and left-handed writers. For every special edition EnerGel Xm Retractable pen it sells, Pentel donates £0.25 to Prostate Cancer UK. In the 17 years of the partnership, Pentel has sold more than 3.02 million pens in support of Prostate Cancer UK. If placed end to end the total length of the pens would be sufficient to scale the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building, more than 529 times. Prostate Cancer UK funds research into earlier diagnosis, as well as making sure men understand their risk of disease, as prostate cancer is currently the only major cancer without a mass screening programme. The charity also provides professional support for men and their families affected by the disease. Pentel Marketing Manager Wendy Vickery says, “Thanks to the continued support of our customers – with thanks especially to Clintons - and the generosity of the public we’re able to keep setting the goalpost higher in our bid to raise even more money for Prostate Cancer UK. We would be absolutely thrilled to reach the next fundraising target, which is £1 million and we’re determined to get there.” James Steven, Head of Partnerships at Prostate Cancer UK says, “Pentel Stationery have continued to be an incredible supporter of Prostate Cancer UK over many years, and for the fundraising efforts to now tip over £750,000 since the partnership started is phenomenal. The money raised has helped fund research into earlier diagnosis and helped us reach men across the country with vital risk awareness information. We look forward to continuing this brilliant partnership and helping save men’s lives.” For more information about the partnership or to find the nearest Pentel stockist, visit: www.pentel.co.uk Game of Wool Series 2: Applications Open Calling all passionate knitters! Created by Richard Tattersall in the 18th century for horse blankets, the shirting became popular in the 19th century. The distinctive Tattersall check became synonymous with country style, craftsmanship, and enduring quality. By blending wool and cotton, this shirting offers the best of both fibres: the breathable softness and durability of cotton combined with the natural warmth, resilience, and moisture-regulating properties of wool. The result is a fabric that feels comfortable across seasons, drapes beautifully, and wears in rather than out. Rooted in tradition yet perfectly suited to modern wardrobes, this reintroduced Turf design celebrates heritage design while delivering everyday performance and refinement. sales@acornfabrics.co.uk www.acornfabrics.com

21 SHOWS & EVENTS This season’s most unmissable events Shows, news & events H+H AMERICAS FALL LAUNCHES h+h americas is proud to announce an exceptional industry response to the launch of the h+h americas Fall Edition, taking place in Houston, Texas, September 30th to 2nd October, 2026, signalling strong momentum across the fibre and fabric sectors for a focused fall marketplace. The event’s early signup ‘Founders Programme’ is now officially closed, securing participation from 65 companies representing six countries and more than 11,250 square feet of exhibit space. These companies represent the official Founding Member cohort of the h+h americas Fall Edition. Their participation sends a clear message that the industry and worldwide business community is ready to gather this fall to drive sales, strengthen partnerships, and align strategic growth initiatives. “The response has been decisive”, said Darrin Stern, President & Managing Director of Koelnmesse, Inc. “We’re seeing broad support from fibre-based companies, fabric-based companies, and suppliers across categories. The industry is signalling that gathering in the fall matters — for sales, for strategy, and for community. Hence, we foresee continued participation in the months ahead, with companies worldwide joining us for this important fall industry gathering.” h+h americas Fall is a new business-to-business trade event for the US fibre and craft industry, designed to connect brands and retailers through product discovery, professional education, and networking. Produced by the team behind h+h americas— the premier US craft trade show held each May since 2022—h+h Fall builds on the momentum of the flagship event with an additional seasonal marketplace for the industry. Hotel blocks for the h+h americas Fall Edition are now open, giving exhibitors and attendees access to specially negotiated room rates at select properties near the event venue in Houston. The show has partnered with area hotels to offer convenient, comfortable accommodations so that buyers, exhibitors, and industry professionals can make the most of their time on the show floor and in business sessions. Particular thanks from Hale extends to all the organisations that have supported the show over its history. There has been unwavering support from a strong cohort of exhibitors and visitors, and from contractors and service providers. Mike commented “The show has taken place in the South West since 1965 & I have personally worked on the show for the last 37 years. It is an emotional day, but we’re immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together. We would like to thank all the buyers and exhibitors that have supported this regional trade show over time. Every product has its life cycle.” Pictured is Brian Lownds-Pateman of company Babbacombe Pottery. Brian first attended this trade show with his father, in 1970, when it took place in Torquay, Devon and Sales Manager, Paul Thomas presented him with a bottle of bubbly to recognise the extensive period that he has been involved. H+H COLOGNE - TOP-QUALITY VISITORS ARE MAKING THE INDUSTRY SHINE After three successful trade fair days, h+h cologne, which was held at the fair grounds of Koelnmesse from 20th to 22nd March 2026, came to a close with nearly 300 exhibitors from 40 countries and around 11,500 trade visitors from 72 countries, the event provided a boost to the international textile and handicrafts sector. Many exhibitors and trade visitors gave the event a very positive review whilst still on site, highlighting its role as an important international platform. They also emphasised the high caliber of visitors from both Germany and abroad. Almost fully-booked exhibition space and a programme co-developed by the community, underlined the fact that the integration of the industry itself is a decisive success factor for h+h cologne. Numerous ideas and impulses emerged from the exchange with the h+h community, which will enable the handicrafts industry to address the challenges of the future. This goal is also reflected in the further developed brand presence under the claim, ‘Inspired by Crafts. Built for Business’, which conveys the connection between the community, know-how and international business to the outside world. The new brand identity, with its patterns and textures inspired by handicrafts, was particularly prominent in the exhibition halls and was also well received by the handicraft community. The Creative Zone offered hands-on knowledge transfer in the form of guided interactive formats and training sessions. In its fee-based workshops, the Academy Zone additionally delved deeper into contents with the aim of optimising and scaling the day-to-day business of the trade in a target manner. The main themes included ‘Blog to Business’, ‘Pinterest Learnings’, ‘Local Visibility’, ‘Strategies for Community Building’ and ‘AI Applications’. The Creator Zone in the Press Centre East offered suitable workspaces and infrastructure for the production of professional content. The Sewing Zone was an additional crowd-puller, where selected exhibitors presented sewing and overlock machines, fabrics, materials and accessories live. Hands-on demos, real-life examples of application and adaptable concepts gave the trade concrete take-aways for consulting, sales and workshops with their own customers. The internationally renowned crochet artist Will Chatlosh delighted the community with an exhibition of his works, as did the fashion show organised by the member companies of the h+h cologne 2026 at a glance: • Around 11,500 trade visitors from 72 countries, foreign share 45% • Biggest international visitor groups from Switzerland, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada and Japan • Nearly 300 exhibitors from 40 countries • Trend Zone with PANTONE 11 4201 Cloud Dancer as the thematic focus • Sewing Zone as a practical hotspot for the trade • Fashion shows organised by Initiative Handarbeit, showcasing the latest trends and looks for winter 2026/27, attracting around 700 visitors per day The next h+h cologne will take place from 2nd to 4th April 2027.
