Do you have a favourite? We’re particularly excited by our growing list of practical craft titles especially across textiles, basketry, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork and printmaking. We welcome the opportunity to bring the exceptional talent and educational skills of master artists to a genuinely wide readership. If I had to spotlight one, it’s Off-Loom Weaving by Sarah Ward Podlesny. The author pairs deep, traditional weaving expertise with a wonderfully warm, approachable voice. By removing the barrier of heavy equipment, Sarah turns weaving into a portable, relaxing craft anyone can pick up - all brought to life with beautiful photography. Hobby & crafts have boomed over the last two years! Have you noticed any new trends? They certainly have! There’s a clear desire for tactile, mindful craft projects that take us away from screens. People want slow, rhythmic practices that let them use their hands, and there is a strong focus on eco-sustainability and using natural materials. How would you advise a retailer who is interested in stocking your products? I’d advise them to browse our website and Instagram @herbert.press and get in touch with our sales team, please reach out to Julie.Gribben@bloomsbury. com and we’d love to set you up with an account. What sets you apart from your competitors? We aim for a balance of providing accessible craft education, beautiful bespoke design, excellent author care and global reach. First, we partner with artists who aren’t just masters of their craft but gifted teachers who make complex techniques accessible. Second, we treat every single book as an independent, bespoke project. Through expert editing, thoughtful layout and beautiful photography we ensure each book inspires as much as it instructs. Finally, as part of a major international publishing house, our authors see their books available across the world from online booksellers to indie bookshops and public libraries. Do you visit any trade shows? Do you plan to visit any soon? Yes we do! We visit shows such as The Creative Craft Show at the NEC, Birmingham and specialist events such as Ceramic Art London. We will visit the Oxford Ceramics Art Fair at the end of October and will be attending craft fairs in the US. What are you looking forward to most over the next year? We’re excited about expanding our list by discovering passionate new authors who are generous with their knowledge and eager to share it with new audiences. We’re interested in publishing books which are fun, approachable entry points for everyday crafters but also books that are definitive reference guides written to explain and advance specialist techniques and preserve heritage crafts. What new products can we expect from you in the future? You can expect more books from authors who are the very best artists and teachers in their field. We’re also enjoying publishing books with institutions such as Heritage Crafts who do important work to keep endangered craft techniques alive.
