Eloise Boyes, Sales Executive (UK and Ireland), tells us more... Tell us a little bit about the company. Where are you based? When did the company start? Search Press is an independent, familyrun publisher of some of the world’s finest art and craft books. Founded in 1970, we are based in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, with offices in Australia and the US. Over the past five decades, we’ve continued to expand our range, inspiring makers around the world with practical, highquality creative books. Who founded the company and why? Search Press was founded in 1970 by Charlotte (Lotti) de la Bédoyère, who published her first book, Basket Weaving, from an attic room in Kensington, London. Translated from a German publication, it became the first of many Search Press titles. Lotti’s vision was simple: to create affordable, practical books packed with expert knowledge, inspiring projects and creative ideas that makers could use again and again. How has the company evolved? From humble beginnings in an attic room, Search Press has grown into an internationally recognised publisher with a team of around 40 people. We now publish up to 100 new titles each year while also distributing books for several respected publishing partners. Almost every stage of the publishing process, from commissioning and design through to production and marketing, is managed in-house, allowing us to maintain the high standards we’re known for. What do you specialise in? We specialise in beautifully produced, practical books covering knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery, cross stitch, textiles, painting, drawing, pottery, woodwork and many other creative hobbies. Whether someone is picking up a craft for the first time or looking to develop their skills, we have books to inspire every level of maker. Talk us through the current products you’re particularly excited about. Do you have a favourite? We’re particularly excited about our latest technique-led and artist-driven titles that bring fresh perspectives to traditional crafts. One upcoming release we’re especially looking forward to is Sketcha-Day Card Deck by Susan Yeates. The deck contains 365 creative prompts, with each card offering seven inspiring sketch ideas to encourage daily creativity. It’s a wonderful way to help artists build a regular sketching habit while keeping creativity fun and accessible.
