Craft Focus - Dec/Jan (Issue 70)

Tell me a little about the history of Vanessa Bee. Vanessa Bee Designs originally sold handmade sheep cards. In 2004 we bought the business and set about increasing the range of products offered, still focusing on the sheep theme. This proved very successful and the company gained many new customers in the tourism and giftware sectors. After hearing that some of our shopping bags were being used to store knitting, we decided to design products specifically for this purpose. These launched in 2014 and were immediately very successful, so we have worked to expand this range. We now offer a 36-page catalogue featuring bags and gifts for knitters. What are the products our readers should know about? Our range started with one design in two colours, but now extends to 12 product styles in six colours. The collection is led by our large knitting bag, which not only generates excellent sales, but also provides a focal point for display purposes. In addition, we make small bags for knitting and crochet and specific holders for needles, hooks and wool. Who designs the products and where does inspiration come from? We come up with the products ourselves, but we have taken advice from our retailers and very importantly, from knitters and crocheters. We are constantly looking to develop new products and we are always keen to hear from customers if they have an idea that we can add to the range. Do you have any new launches coming up? We have just launched our autumn giftware range, which is aimed at the Christmas market for knitters. It includes lovely bone china mug and coaster sets, tea towels and Robert Adams, owner and director of Vanessa Bee Designs, explains how the company’s quirky products can help retailers boost impulse purchasing counting sheep 44 craft focus
