Pantone reveals Colour of the Year 2019: Image 1 Pantone has announced its Colour of the Year for 2019. Living Coral is described as an animating and life-affirming shade of orange with golden undertones. It has been selected in reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media that is increasingly embedded in daily life. Sociable and spirited, Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity, symbolising a desire for optimism and joyful pursuits.

“Colour is an equalising lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanising and heartening qualities displayed by this convivial colour hit a responsive chord.” It is intended to be evocative of the ways in which coral reefs provide shelter to a kaleidoscope of other hues, reflecting the familiar and energising aspects of the natural world.

“Colour enhances and influences the way we experience life,” adds Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone. “As a shade that affirms life through a dual role of energising and nourishing, 16-1546 Living Coral reinforces how colours can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time.

As an organic shade, Living Coral is striking in digital mediums, invoking the same inspirational feeling ignited by our natural surroundings. Across fashion and accessories, the warm shade suggests comfort and positivity in simple colour stories, becoming more explorative and effervescent in patterns, textures and even monochrome looks. In product design, it represents a desire for goods that are humanising and heartening, while in interior décor and home furnishings it can be used to create a dramatic pop of colour. Living Coral is Pantone's 20th colour of the year, and was influenced by many factors, including trends in the entertainment industry, travelling art collections, fashion, design, popular travel destinations and socio-economic conditions.
