CHA-UK has just published the most definitive research conducted in the craft industry in years revealing that 7.1 million women tried a new craft for the first time in the last 12 months, with overall crafter numbers increasing by 12%.
The new research is the most extensive survey of the UK craft industry in decades and includes statistics on the size of the craft market, the profile of today's crafter, the top ten crafts as well as details on the key sectors for growth and new entrants to the craft market.
The research was conducted by TGI (Target Group Index) who surveyed 1000 British women, measuring levels of participation across key sectors of the craft market to build a detailed picture of the British crafter, tracking changes in participation over time.
“There hasn't been a definitive survey of the craft market in years. At the CHA-UK we pride ourselves on being at the heart of the UK craft market and this survey is all part of our service to our members and the industry as a whole,” explains Craig De Souza, director of membership services for CHA-UK.
“The results are extensive and give a real insight into the strength of the market and the key players within it. For example, we discovered that 71% of British females crafted in the last year, with 55% of British females enjoying craft as a hobby. With 7.1 million women trying a new craft in the UK over the last year, it's no surprise that the industry is so buoyant and exciting," continues Craig.
Available exclusively to CHA-UK members. This is the only up-to-date research of its kind and it will prove invaluable to members and those start-up businesses looking to enter the craft industry.
