52 The home of happy stitching Chrissie Rayment, Managing Director at Bothy Threads discusses their first ever embroidery range launching this September Tell us a little bit about the company. Where are you based? When did the company start? Bothy Threads was established in 1993 by Kate Golby. Kate found that she had run out of cross stitch designs she wanted to stitch, so decided to start creating her own! Originally located in Reading, Kate set up the first ‘Bothy’ in her parents’ back garden. The company grew and grew and when Kate, and her husband John, decided to follow their dream to move to the Lake District, Bothy Threads came too. Located in the North Lakes, Iona (Kate and John’s younger daughter) and I now run the Bothy on a day-to-day basis. We’re supported by an ever-growing team of dedicated staff and we continue to design and develop cross stitch, tapestry and long stitch kits alongside our very exciting venture for 2022… embroidery kits!
