Craft Focus - June/July 2022 (Issue 91)

58 Stylish & sustainable Carly and Greg Murray, the husband and wife team behind Cascayde, talk to Craft Focus about their on-trend ranges of plastic-free products Tell us a little bit about the company’s history – who started the company and when? We started the business together in 2019 with the goal of offering plastic free and eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products to as many people as possible. Where are you based and who are the people behind the company? We are both from Glasgow and met at work in 2010. We’ve found ourselves working together pretty much ever since. This journey led us both through various roles in accounts and logistics with established companies before deciding to take the step to work for ourselves at Cascayde. How has the company evolved over the years? Between 2019 and 2022 we’ve grown from selling plastic-free alternatives direct to consumers online and at events into a wholesale business supplying our best selling products to retailers across the UK. What do you specialise in? Eco-friendly paper tape. They’re popular with small businesses who want to package orders in a more sustainable way, individuals looking for greener gift wrap and particularly with crafters who like to get creative. Tell us a bit about your ethos and company values. Our paper tapes are plastic-free, recyclable, made with natural adhesive and printed in the UK on paper from FSC approved sources with vegan-friendly ink. What new products are you currently excited about? We’re always working on new designs and the recent addition of black print on a white kraft paper is proving very popular with our customers. Do your products suit all levels of crafters? Yes, we recently started uploading ‘how to’ videos to social media with clear instructions on how to quickly craft things like bows for gifts and your own Christmas crackers using paper tape. We have lots more of these planned over the coming months
