81 PROFILE David & Charles +44 (0)1392 790 650 hello@davidandcharles.com www.davidandcharles.com Lapin book with a cohort of new friends, and TV-favourite Susan Briscoe returns with a sashiko design for every day of the year in Sashiko 365. Do your books suit all levels of crafters? Yes! We try to ensure all our books are beginner friendly, with all the techniques you need to complete the projects explained with step-by-step instructions in the books. Craft has boomed over the last year! Have you noticed any new trends? Art and craft as therapy is a clear shift thanks to the pandemic, and one we have tapped through our For the Soul series, with Cross Stitch, Sewing and Watercolour all doing well in this series. Sustainability is also a strong focus across the industry, and we’ve been doing important work to look at the environmental impact of our books and our supply chain. We’re also publishing into this category with our Zero Waste series, Sustainable Knitting for Beginners and Beyond, and titles like Crochet Hacking, which shows you how to bring old clothes back to life with crochet. How often do you launch new titles? We launch in two seasons, spring/ summer and autumn/winter, with new titles launching every month – there’s always something exciting just landing! How would you advise a retailer who is interested in stocking your products? D&C books are distributed by Grantham Book Services (GBS) in the UK, you can also buy wholesale through Search Press and Gardeners among others. What sets you apart from your competitors? D&C has always been synonymous with quality and that’s a value we pride ourselves on to this day. Our editors and designers are all passionate about our categories and our books and we strive for excellence in all that we do. Our aim is to support our authors to pursue their passions, our readers to develop their creative interests and our staff to do their best work. Do you visit any trade shows? Do you plan to visit any soon? We have just exhibited at CHSI Stitches in February, and the London Book Fair in April. We will also be at lots of consumer shows this year with our friends at Search Press, from The Creative Craft Show to Festival of Quilts and many more. What are you looking forward to most over the next year? We’re enjoying a period of growth, which has allowed us to expand into the wellbeing category, bring out a new gift and merchandise line, and develop online courses with new partners. We’re particularly looking forward to developing our partnership with Kew and the exciting opportunities this offers in the digital space.
