122 REASONS TO STOCK • Encourages creativity • Entertaining family fun • A great gift idea THE PRODUCT Designed for children aged five and over, Wilton Bradley’s marbling kit comes with paints, a canvas and easel, pipette, measuring spoon and plastic stylus. There’s also a pot of carrageenan, a natural seaweed derivative that’s used to thicken the liquid that’s used as a base. A little adult help is needed to mix the carrageenan with warm water, which must be mixed and left for up to 12 hours to form a thick, blended liquid. HOW TO USE IT Once the solution is ready, the marbling base is placed in a plastic tray. Paint is dropped into the liquid, where it floats on the surface. It’s then possible to create beautiful patterns by using the stylus to swirl the colours gently together. Our tester, six-year-old Thomas thought this was great fun. When the design is complete, it can be transferred to paper or canvas by resting it on top of the solution. This surface is removed and left to dry, resulting in a beautiful swirling image to display at home or gift to a relative.
