77 CAKES How sweet it is Cake inspiration for autumn CAKE INTERNATIONAL Cake International returns to the NEC, Birmingham from 1 st -3 rd November, with highlights including a life-sized depiction of Villanelle, the fictional Russian assassin from TV’s Killing Eve. Turkish cake designer Tuba Geckil will be replicating actress Jodie Comer dressed in an edible version of the pink tulle dress made famous by her character. The show will also feature hundreds of exhibitors offering the latest ideas, demos, supplies and advice. Continuing with the thriller and horror theme, visitors will be able to feast their eyes on an installation influenced by Stephen King’s dark and twisted tales. Drawing inspiration from It, The Green Mile and other stories, some of the scariest characters of all time will be recreated in cake form. There’s also a life-sized interpretation of Iroak the Armoured Bear, star of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, produced by 2017 Cake Artist of the Year Emma Jayne. The show will feature a Pudsey party in aid of Children in Need, with cakes from more than 100 contributors including Paul Bradford, Molly Robbins and Ben Cullen. New for 2019, there will also be a display showcasing the colours, traditions and vibrancy of Indian culture, with works by Tina Scott Parashar and Elza Baldzhisyka on display. With competitors flying in from across the world, this year’s competition entries are expected to exceed 2,000. There will also be specialist workshops and theatre events to inspire would-be bakers.
