Craft Focus - Feb/Mar (Issue 71)

Tell us a little about the origin of Marvic Fabrics. We were founded over 20 years ago by my father Victor Misan, who spent his entire working life in the fabric industry. In 1996 I joined him in running the business from our Hayes premises until he passed away in 2009. I have steadily grown the business, supplying fabric retailers and manufacturers. We moved into new premises in Hatfield three years ago. What are your key products? We carry a varied range of dress and fashion fabrics, all available from stock. The collection is regularly updated and enhanced through our policy of continuous sourcing from European mills and clothing manufacturers. This gives us access to quality high-end cloths at competitive prices, including wool, linen, cotton, jersey, evening wear and silk in different weights and designs with printed and plain options. How can retailers get to see your products? We have agents that carry our collection and visit customers all over the UK and Ireland as well as in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Retailers that are interested can contact us for more information. What are the fabric trends to look out for in spring/summer 2019? We are seeing a focus on natural-looking fabrics with lots of texture. Denims and blues are popular, together with beige, sand and oatmeal. Beautiful coloured prints are also looking strong and are very commercial. What’s your take on the current British craft sector? The craft industry has seen good growth over the last few years, but it does have similar challenges to other retail sectors. It benefits from strong independent retailers that can buck the trend through making the customer experience a worthwhile and inspirational one. How often do you launch new products? Our range changes all the time and we have new fabrics in the collection on a weekly basis. Do you attend any trade shows? We always exhibit at CHSI Stitches in February. We also attend the Textile Forum in London in both March and October. What’s coming up next? We’ll continue at what we do best – supplying a huge variety of lovely fabrics to our customers. We will also focus on extending our range of plain materials. Family business Marvic Fabrics has supplied retailers for more than two decades.
