Craft Focus - Feb/Mar (Issue 71)

Tell me a little about AFCI.UK and its objectives. AFCI.UK wants to help its members learn something new in order to better their businesses. We intend to help people connect with others with the aim of succeeding and discovering new brands and products and fresh ways to work. How did you come to be part of the organisation? I’ve been involved in the creative craft and hobby industry for over 16 years. I started learning and connecting with the sector by working on both trade and consumer publications and websites. Then came an opportunity to run the association and help the UK’s creative industry to grow and be more successful. It’s something that I’m very passionate about! What are the benefits for members? There are many reasons to join, but because everyone is individual, the best and key benefit is the ability to talk and share. When business owners tell me about their goals, frustrations and issues I can help to support them better and provide exactly what they need, when they need it. You’ll be hosting One Big Show again this year – what can we expect? One Big Show is a business conference and marketing event, and its aim is to help the industry learn, connect and discover. Being able to meet and talk with other companies is vital for everyone. It will be held on 7 th and 8 th July 2019 and more details will be available soon. How do you think the British creative industry is performing? Times are hard, but I’m confident things will pick up as businesses ride both the highs and lows. There will always be creative people wanting to sell and buy, so companies need to focus on their main audience, finding smart ways to engage and diversify. What’s coming up next for the association? There’s lots going on in 2019. The board and I have just completed our strategic plans for this year and beyond, focusing on helping all our associates. Our designer members will be able to learn about infringement as we educate them in this area. We’ll also be helping retailer members to engage more successfully with their target audience and assisting suppliers to connect with new markets. There’s a huge amount going on, so the best thing to do is contact me to find out how we can help.
