FROM PAPER TO FABRIC Already huge in the papercrafting industry, die-cutting is a great way of cutting beautifully intricate shapes with speed and precision and it’s now coming to the sewing market with the new Fabric Gemini electronic die-cutting machine from Crafter’s Companion. This new machine allows sewers the capability to create all kinds of appliqué effects, quilts and fabric embellishments with ease. Featuring a high pressure to allow for better cutting of elaborate designs, it also allows for the cutting of a range of different materials, from heavyweight cardstock to vinyl, foil, felt, leather and fabric, opening up a world of new possibilities for sewers’ craft projects whether quilting, creating soft furnishings for around the home or dressmaking. With its facility to pause, resume and reverse, sewers needn’t worry about making a mistake, and the large platform allows for edge-to-edge A4 cutting, saving time by cutting multiple dies at once. Included with the machine are three cutting die sets so you can start crafting straight away. A PLACE FOR MODERN QUILTING Ellen is the creative influence behind Ellie’s Quiltplace. Having had a passion for all things quilting and patchwork since the age of 10, Ellen is now a well-respected pattern designer based in Gierle, Belgium. Ellen and her partner Philippe have developed two fabric ranges. The second range called Modern Traditions along with all subsequent ranges will be distributed by Hantex in the UK and Eastern Europe. The collections all printed on 100 per cent, are the result of a long journey that starts with a great admiration and passion for antique scrap quilts from the American colonial period. The collections are influenced by Ellen’s own, European-inspired diverse colour palette and her love for smaller prints.
