The donation, which comprises a substantial volume of titles across various genres, generated approximately £120,000 in revenue for the charity. The books, which include a wide range of craft, lifestyle, and art titles, were distributed to BHF shops across the country, providing a boost to their stock and offering customers a fantastic selection of new books to purchase. The funds raised from the sale of these books goes directly towards the BHF’s life-saving research into cardiovascular diseases, which affect millions of people in the UK. Bel Youldon, Commercial Director at David & Charles, commented on the donation: “At David & Charles, our mission is to ignite and nurture our readers’ hobbies and interests, and this donation to British Heart Foundation was a way to extend that spirit into the wider community. We hope our art and craft books not only inspire creativity but also help raise vital funds to support BHF’s incredible work.” Karen O’Donoghue, Head of Retail Partnerships at British Heart Foundation said: “We’re delighted that this very generous donation of books from David & Charles has raised a significant amount of money for British Heart Foundation. The books were very popular and quickly snapped up by our customers. “Donations like these are invaluable to British Heart Foundation. Not only do they provide great variety for shoppers and help draw shoppers in time and time again, but the money raised helps power groundbreaking research to save and improve lives. A huge thank you to David & Charles for their support.” Crafters unite for Shaun the Sheep’s 30th anniversary Crafters from across the UK and around the world came together at The Mills Fabrica in King’s Cross, London, to mark Shaun the Sheep’s 30th anniversary with a community knita-thon like no other. Hosted by Aardman in partnership with British Wool, Campaign for Wool, and Craft Forward, the event celebrated the finale of the ‘Can Ewe Knit It?’ global crafting initiative, which invited fans to knit or crochet a 20cm x 20cm Shaun-inspired square for good. Hundreds of handmade squares were stitched together onsite by volunteers, creators, and hobbyists to create blankets for unhoused people across London. Emily Jones, Brand & Insights Manager at Aardman, said: “For three decades, Shaun has inspired creativity and joy. With ‘Can Ewe Knit It?’ we wanted to celebrate that spirit by connecting people through craft and compassion. The creativity and care shown by makers around the world has been truly ewe-nique.” The event also shone a spotlight on British Wool’s support for local farmers and sustainable fibre, with all materials for the project made from 100 percent British wool, donated by West Yorkshire Spinners. Elena Lo Presti, Craft Forward Director added: “Our workshops allow communities to take action and use their skills to make a positive change, and we did just that with this event. Every square knitted or crocheted today will be stitched into a blanket that will bring warmth and dignity to people that need it the most.”
