Craft Focus - June/July 2025 (Issue 109)

40 Trusted titles Carmel Edmonds, Publishing Manager of CICO Books talks to Craft Focus about their impressive list of craft books and the current popularity of crochet For those that are new to the scene, tell us a little backstory about Ryland Peters & Small and CICO Books. We’re an independent publisher of illustrated lifestyle books. Our focus is on creating beautiful books to inspire, with an emphasis on high quality and creativity. Under the CICO Books imprint we publish a range of craft books – crochet, knitting, sewing and origami, as well as more specialist crafts such as rag rugging and resin craft. We also publish craft books for children under our CICO Kidz imprint, including Sewing Machine Basics for Children. The company has evolved over time – what are the main changes? We have a small but dedicated team who are passionate about craft here at CICO Books. We work closely with authors to bring the books into the world. They’re supported by the editorial team alongside our publicity and marketing team to bring awareness to their books. We’re always looking at new ways to showcase our craft list, whether that’s working with influencers, magazines or working on events with retailers. We want to offer our customers the best value for money and keep up to date with their interests. Talk us through the new titles you’re particularly excited about. Do you have a favourite? We have some fabulous new craft books coming out this summer: Crocheted Dogs and Crocheted Cats, both by Barbara Donovan. Her characterful, lifelike designs bring joy to all who see them, and I can’t wait for readers to be able to buy the book and make these cuddly cushions and homewares for themselves. I’m also looking forward to the release of Cute Knitted Animals by Sue Stratford – a collection of mini creatures which are simply adorable. What book is currently selling well? Crochet continues to be a hot topic and Introduction to Crochet by Kate Eastwood and Get Hooked on Crochet by Natalie Beard both offer gorgeous patterns that even beginners can take on. Our sewing books with Angela Pressley – Simple Machine Sewing and Sewing Machine
