Advice from Viking Loom on how to promote beads and jewellery making in your store
Beads might get a bit dusty but they don't date. There are lots of competitively priced readymade ones so sell up and explain about the beads you stock. Point out these sorts of things to your customers so that they'll begin to look at beads as retailers do.
Tell customers about the quality of glass
Do they have silver linings to add extra twinkle to projects
What sort of finish the bead has - opaque, matt, satin or shiny
Bead sizes - extra large beads can be set off by smaller beads in between
Take a good look at what you have in stock and perhaps begin promotion with a lariat necklace. There's no need for a clasp with a lariat just crimps . Make one up yourself to wear or hang it up next to your beads. Take every chance to talk to your customers about it and do a little recipe card setting out which materials you've used - wire (Beadalon seven-stranded 0.018), crimps and bent nosed pliers you have used. Don't be frightened of giving customers' tips - it will help to build a customers confidence in your business and where to come for expert advice.
