The survey among Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycrafts show visitors reveals that crafting is such a passion for many that a third of respondents have turned down a night out to stay in and craft.
Almost half of crafters (46 per cent) have a whole room dedicated to their craft projects while more than one in five (22.9 per cent) admit to regularly staying up past midnight to finish off their projects, a survey released by ICHF Events reveals.
Far from using holidays to take a break from their craft projects over half (61 per cent) take projects on holiday with them while one in five have booked holiday from work specifically to work on a project.
Crafters are making use of downtime in the day too with 38 per cent of respondents having taken projects into their workplace to work on in their lunch breaks.
A crafty one in four (26 per cent) of respondents admitted to encouraging their partner to go on a night out so they could stay in and craft.
Simon Burns, ICHF Events joint managing director said: “These results show just what a dedicated bunch our show visitors are. We knew that our customers were passionate about crafting but these results show just what a popular and fulfilling hobby it can be. There are so many benefits to crafting and it's clear to see that it continues to play a big part in people's lives.”
Crafting for the love of it
The majority of those surveyed (71 per cent) are crafting for the love of it while almost a third (28 per cent) are turning their hobby into a business venture by selling their creations online or at craft fairs.
Friends and families of crafters are regularly treated to handmade bespoke gifts and cards according to the survey with more than one in three (35 per cent) making all of their friends and families birthday cards and over one in ten (16 per cent) creating birthday gifts for at least half of their friends and families.
