Dates have just been announced for 2016 Small is Beautiful conference celebrating, inspiring and supporting micro-enterprises across the globe
Small is Beautiful is an annual inspirational conference and a celebration of the world of creative micro-businesses and enterprising – moves to Edinburgh for the 2016 edition. Taking place at the Royal Lyceum Theatre from 14th - 15th June, Small is Beautiful will bring together some of the world's leading thinkers on solopreneurship to discuss and debate this 21st century approach to working life.
Small is Beautiful is aimed at microentrepreneurs who are looking for inspiration and connection with like-minded people. The conference will provide the tools and motivation for people to make the leap to become a solopreneur, and for those already running micro enterprises to continue their journey across the UK and beyond.
This year's line-up of speakers includes:
LA-based novelist, producer and director Brian Hennigan who recently launched a stand-up comedy label, Roadrunner Comedy
Comedian, podcaster and author Simon Caine
Scottish Dramatist David Greig
Artist Deidre Nelson
Patricia van den Akker, Director of the online business school for designers and makers, The Design Trust
Brhmie Balaram, a Senior Researcher at the RSA who is leading the organisation's research on the sharing economy.
First launched in Glasgow in 2014, Small is Beautiful is the brainchild of co-producers Roanne Dods and Deborah Keogh and is inspired by some of the thinking in the 1973 book of the same name by British Economist EF Schumacher and is for people who commit to small.
The conference was launched in response to the rise in micro-businesses and the number of people who now work for themselves: almost one in six people in the UK workforce are now their own boss. The event is supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
This year, three special advisors will join the Small is Beautiful team: Editor-in-Chief and Director of 99U Jocelyn Glei; Rohan Gunatillake, creator of buddhify and Director of Mindfulness Everywhere; Ruth Little, a theatre and dance dramaturg, a teacher and writer.
Tickets for Small is Beautiful are now on sale at www.smallisb.com. Prices start at £69 for a day ticket. Early bird tickets costing £99 for the two days will be available until 17th April 2016.
