Crafter's Companion was founded by Sara in 2005 and its new HQ and store will be located near the company's existing packing and warehouse operation. The firm specialises in manufacturing and distributing crafting tools and products, which are sold online via its website and in over 5,000 craft retail outlets across the globe.
Now leading papercraft supplier, Crafter's Companion has unveiled plans to open its own retail outlet in the north-east in a bid to attract more people into craft and provide a training centre for independent craft retailers.
Crafter's Companion is investing more than half a million pounds in the 7,000 sq ft site, which will house a Retail Centre for Excellence intended to support retailers from across the UK with training and consumer insight. The fit out is expected to take around eight weeks to complete and will also include a coffee shop, a central hub for workshops and group sessions, two dedicated demonstration areas and themed shopping sections.
In a boost to the local economy in County Durham, the Newton Aycliffe-based flagship store will initially create up to twelve new jobs. The opening of the venue will coincide with a move to the company's new corporate headquarters, which is situated next door.
“What we're looking to create is a craft retail store different to anything that has been seen before. We want craft enthusiasts and retailers to come here to socialise with a likeminded community, receive education and gain inspiration. We want to learn about retailing in a bricks and mortar store and fully understand what makes retail trade tick. By knowing how to drive footfall, increase product turns and motivate customers to return first-hand, we can pass on these learnings to our retail partners," explains Sara Davies, founder and sales director at Crafter's Companion.
“We genuinely believe craft retailing has a future on the high street and by putting our money where our mouth is, we're demonstrating our commitment to helping our retail partners prosper for many years to come,” Sara added.
The company is looking to employ enthusiastic crafters and specialists to staff its new store with a view of opening its doors to the crafting public by May 2016. For crafters, Crafter's Companion quite simply want to create an amazing craft experience, and hope the store becomes a real destination that people will travel to for a crafty day out.
The company will now have a physical presence for the brand and the flagship outlet will be a place that its loyal consumers can visit to experience our culture in person. By growing the impact of the brand on end consumers, it will in-turn drive them to existing retail channels like local craft shops.
