Celebrating a remarkable career of 50 years in the textile design industry, Kaffe Fassett will be attending The Fibre Festival in Chipping Norton on 23rd May and delivering a lecture on his life in colour at the town's theatre. The lecture will take place at 2pm on Saturday 23rd May in The Theatre, Chipping Norton.
Before his talk Kaffe will visit the hub of the festival, The Fibreworks shop, which will spill out into Middle Row with demonstrations of spinning, stalls with locally produced yarns and handmade textiles, alpacas, a vintage tea van and an exhibition of hand made Kaffe designs.
Kaffe began his career as a painter in his native California, coming to Britain in the 1960s. He discovered the joys of knitting on a trip to the woollen mills of Scotland with fashion designer Bill Gibb, going on to create ground-breaking designs for Gibb's early collections and the fashion house Missoni. His passion for colour and pattern subsequently led him to design across a wide range of media, including knitting for Rowan yarns, quilting, developing his own fabric collections, needlework, rug-making, mosaic, as well as painting and textile design.
Lesley Wildman, co-owner of The Fibreworks, commented, “It's our privilege to honour Kaffe's contribution to the world of textiles with an exhibition of his work produced by local knitters and quilters over the past decades. We look forward to what promises to be an inspirational look into Kaffe's world, giving us all a chance to bring the joy of colour into our lives. We are also running several workshops in the coming months taking Kaffe's designs as inspiration and using our stock of his fabrics and publications.”
