The Sewing Directory (www.thesewingdirectory.co.uk) was launched by Fiona Pullen back in March 2010 with the concept of bringing information about sewing businesses: sewing classes, sewing shops, sewing groups etc into one place.
It rapidly grew well beyond its original remit almost becoming an online magazine with hundreds of free sewing projects, technique guides, industry news, regular giveaways and a great resource for thos in the sewing industry.
“I soon realised that people wanted much more than details of where to learn to sew or buy fabrics.” says Fiona, “The benefit of being a small business is that I can respond quickly to what my audience want when they're hungry for good quality content. After five years of running the site alone balancing writing content with handling the business side of things I decided it was time to bring in a content expert to work alongside me. Who knows better what British stitchers want to read than the editor of one of the UK's longest running sewing magazines?”
In April the editor of Sewing World Magazine, Julie Briggs, will be leaving her role at Traplet Publications to become a full partner of The Sewing Directory, focusing on building up the content side of the site. Many of you will know Julie as the being the editor who has recently refreshed the look and content of Sewing World making it more modern and increasing its circulation.
After three years alone at the helm of Sewing World, she's ready for a new challenge. "I was absolutely thrilled to be asked by Fiona to be her partner on The Sewing Directory. I have worked with her closely during my time at Sewing World magazine, sharing ideas and much enthusiasm for our favourite subject - sewing! I've an enormous amount of respect for Fiona and what she has achieved and hope that I can bring my experience and ideas to add to hers to make The Sewing Directory even more amazing than it is now!"
With advertising on The Sewing Directory being fully booked, sometimes years ahead, Julie and Fiona will be looking to work with businesses in a different way, promoting their products via content marketing in the ever expanding content side of The Sewing Directory. Julie will be starting with The Sewing Directory on the 20th of April. If you are interested in working with The Sewing Directory please register your interest now.
