Hailed a success by both retailers and suppliers who attended the inaugural Retailer Product Training Day, the event was another educational initiative hosted by the CHA-UK whose aim is to unite, develop and represent the Creative Industries in the UK.
Under the auspices of the Craft and Hobby Association-UK, the Retailer Training Day concept was a development which grew out of the Retailer Educational Roadshows which were hosted by the CHA-UK last year.
Left in the capable hands of 9 CHA-UK supplier member companies who sponsored the event, with each supplier running 5 dedicated workshops or classes throughout the day, 34 retailers benefitted from hands-on demonstrations with new products and techniques to be able to demonstrate their usage and applications back in their individual shops. In addition to the learning experience, there was time to network with other similar minded retailers and suppliers, as well the opportunity to place orders on the day.
This introductory Retailer Product Training Day focussed on papercrafts and cake decoration and was sponsored by Woodware Craft Collection, Spellbinders, Tattered Lace, Silhouette, Fiskars, Creative Expressions, Katy Sue Designs, Premium Art Brands and Paper Artsy.
Retailer feedback was extremely positive with requests for more Retailer Product Training Days covering other product areas, especially painting, more cake decorating, fabrics, sugarcrafts, beading and knitting and crochet.
As part of the CHA-UK's aims and objectives to Unite, Develop and Represent the Creative Industries in the UK, more Retailer Product Training Days will be planned for the future to fulfil the educational role in which the CHA-UK is taking a leading role. Watch out for more educational initiatives from the CHA-UK including Creative Exchanges and the One Big Show in 2015.
The CHA-UK is fast becoming a serious player in the educational arena and will continue to support the creative crafts industry. However it needs support from the trade to allow the association to flourish – if you're not a member, perhaps it's time to join the CHA-UK and help build a stronger and more profitable future.
