While baking and sewing have both captured the nation's hearts with TV programmes such as The Great British Bake Off and Great British Sewing Bee, the nation's crafters have been left wanting when it comes to gaining inspiration from regular TV programmes. However, a new TV series Crafty Beggars (sponsored by Hobbycraft) is about to hit our screens and fill this void.
Presented by Julie Peasgood and Wendy Turner Webster, the programme will air on TLC (Discovery Channel) on Sky 125 and Virgin 167 from Monday 3rd November to Friday 7th November initially - showing two programmes back-to-back from 9-10 am with a further repeat in the afternoon if you missed it!
The programme takes two pairs of craft enthusiasts who are set an ultimate crafty challenge over a two-day period. On the first day each team is given a few hours and a small budget to buy, borrow and beg all the items they need to produce a range of handmade crafts that are good enough to sell. The contestants must use all their ingenuity to gather in all the raw materials required for the job and then to engage in a frenzy of activity making their products that afternoon – and through into the night. On the second day the teams arrive at their pop-up stall in a busy town centre to sell their crafts to the public. The winner is the team whose handmade crafts make the most cash.
“Why spend a fortune on bespoke handmade creations when you really don't have to? All you need to be a crafty beggar is inspiration, imagination and lots of enthusiasm. We're so thrilled to be bringing Crafty Beggars to the nation's homes and hope that budding crafters will have as much fun watching it as we had making it!” commented Wendy, presenter of the new show.
