The British Craft Network has just announced the launch of the UK's first dedicated crafting internet TV channel, which goes on air at 9am on Wednesday 1st October 2014, www.britishcraftnetwork.tv.
The channel will broadcast from 9am until 9pm, 7 days a week and will feature some of the UK's most familiar faces from crafting TV. Unlike traditional shopping channels, its aim will be to focus on craft demonstration, techniques and education.
We spoke to The British Craft Network's business manager Maggie Ware who told us;
“Crafters in the UK are hungry for something different, our customers are telling us that they want to see more in-depth demonstrations, technique based tutorials and a bigger variety of products and not so much irrelevant chatter on their screens.” She added, “UK crafters want to see what can be created with products and have the opportunity to buy what's being demonstrated if they want, directly from those doing the demonstrations.”
The network have been in discussions with lots of names and companies since last November and everything has been a closely guarded secret. As the launch approaches, you can expect to see familiar faces appear on advertising and social media.
“It's true that selling craft on TV has, in the past, been reserved for companies who could afford to lose the high margins of traditional TV shopping channels. At the British Craft Network, that's not the case. We've made contributing to the channel as easy and affordable as possible to encourage smaller designers, craft retailers, and experts to take part, without the additional cost margins,” Maggie explained.
