For the last two years, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) has run a project that has gripped the imagination of hundreds of up and coming young artists across the world; with over 60 winners to date showcasing their creative talent supersized on billboards across the UK (and in a Gallery Exhibition in India).
The popular 'Who Are You?' competition is back for the third year running and is calling for all budding artistic 14-19 year olds to creatively answer the question 'Who Are You?' Winners' artwork will be blown up onto billboards across the UK in a unique outdoor gallery that will be seen by hundreds of people across the UK.
The 2014 judging panel comprise of creative industry experts – people who have followed their creative dreams and have made a name for themselves in their chosen field. They include world renowned photographer Rankin; award-winning humanitarian photographer Giles Duley; in-demand illustrator and AUB alumnus Debbie Powell; and Co-founder of professional creative community 'The Loop', Pip Jamieson. The artistic heavy-weights will support the AUB in giving teenagers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get their work seen by thousands.
Who Are You Winners 2013 Judge Giles Duley commented: “What I love about 'Who Are You' is that it's not just about winning a prize, it's about encouraging people from a young age to get their work out there. Some of the work last year was as good as professional work. Art is about communication, first communicating with yourself, and then other people and this competition is an important step. So many people I know got into art in their teens, but then gave it all up as the years went by. Encouragement at this stage will hopefully make people carry on with their creative dreams.”
Simon Pride, Head of Marketing at the AUB commented: “Following on from the success of last year's competition, we are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with outdoor media specialists JCDecaux for the third year running and encouraging young creatives to follow their dreams and express who they are in the world today through their artwork. Through the competition, AUB are helping young people who dream of a career in the creative industries to launch themselves, and hopefully their careers, by giving them a huge platform to showcase their work.”
