Famous faces including Alan Titchmarsh, Bill Nighy, Sir Michael Parkinson, Manolo Blahnik and Jackie Collins have been busy doodling for this year's National Doodle Day. Taking place on Friday 7 March, the event raises much-needed funds for UK charity Epilepsy Action.
National Doodle Day, which is supported by Dodo Pad, publishers of the original family 'doodle' diary, aims to get as many people doodling as possible. The event raises money to help support the 600,000 people across the UK with epilepsy.
Epilepsy Action is asking schools, groups, clubs and individuals to 'do a doodle, donate a pound' with the chance of a prize for anyone taking part.
Groups and individuals could take home up to £250 in cash and schools will be in with a chance of winning £250 of equipment and resource vouchers. The winner of each category will also receive a custom-made 3D stuffed figure of their doodle design, courtesy of textile designer Lucy Moose. Lucy specialises in making unique textile goods from recycled fabrics at her studio in Scotland.
The celebrities' scribbles will feature in a ten-day eBay auction, beginning on National Doodle Day, with all funds raised going to Epilepsy Action.
Philippa Cartwright, fundraising events manager at Epilepsy Action said: “Every year we are overwhelmed with the positive support that we receive from celebrities and members of the public alike. Spending just a few minutes of your day to get creative really will make all the difference to people affected by epilepsy and their families. Absolutely anyone can take part so please round up your family and friends and get doodling!”
The auction will run from Friday 7 March to Sunday 16 March 2014. The closing date for entries into the National Doodle Day competition is Friday 4 April 2014.
Epilepsy affects around one in every 100 people in the UK alone and 87 people are diagnosed with the condition every day. Each year Epilepsy Action directly helps around one million people through a range of services, including its Epilepsy Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050, branch network, specialist nurse scheme and award-winning website, epilepsy.org.uk
