Craft Focus - Dec/Jan (Issue 70)

THE PRODUCT Designed by Meg Evershed from The Nutmeg Company, this pretty snowdrop trinket tray is characterised by delicate shades of gold and blue, with floral embellishments. The kit includes everything needed to complete the project, including stranded cottons and a needle. It also contains felt, plastic canvas shapes, 16 count aida fabric and a full set of instructions. The finished tray is approximately 7.8cm square and 3.5cm high. The design is not printed on the material and includes cross stitch charts that are large and easy to follow. The fabrics and cottons included are all really good quality, with soft yet vivid colours. I applied a little creative licence when following the directions and used a pencil to mark some areas on the fabric to help see exactly what I was doing and make sure I didn’t go ‘over the lines’. The instructions were clear, although I think this kit would be best suited to stitchers with a little more experience. This would make a lovely project for someone with time to spare, particularly those who are looking for something that will take a little longer. The finished tray could be used to store pins or threads whilst crafting, or simply displayed around the home. The Nutmeg Company is well-known for its 3D cross stitch sets, including weekend cottages, miniature houses, shops and Christmas decorations. Other trinket boxes, trays and vases are available, as well as gift bags, bookmarks and greetings cards.
